Our story
My name is Jim. For many years I directed the IT operations of a local manufacturing company, until one day I was told by senior management that my responsibilities were being outsourced to an overseas "service provider". They assured me that this had nothing to do with my job performance or my technical skills, I was simply part of a "workforce reduction". Nothing personal mind you. I was given 2 weeks notice and shown the door. Right before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Was that company struggling to survive? Nope, that $22Billion global Fortune 500 corporation had just posted the biggest profits in its 65-year history.
Does this story sound familiar?
I still count myself lucky, for I know that there are billions of people around the world with much darker stories to tell. People who are being exploited and consumed not only by corporations, but by their political, economic, legal, and cultural institutions. By the very people entrusted to look after their welfare.
The rich and powerful get richer and more powerful, while the majority of humanity fights for the crumbs. Same old story, right?
Well, I decided to rewrite my personal story and to create a clothing brand that would encourage people to stand up for their intrinsic human rights, while also donating 50% of our profits to those in need and to those working to preserve our natural environment. A brand that would take a stand. A brand called ThinkDefyUnite.
So, using my savings, I created Think Defy Unite LLC, designed the graphics, bought the domain names, developed this site, secured the trademarks, transformed my garage into a print-shop, and began personally selling the products and building the brand on the streets of New York City, one T-shirt at a time.
Where it goes next is anyone's guess, but I think I just may have created a little spark...
